The annual Port Douglas Marlin Challenge is held during the first weeks of November each year. Anglers from all over Australia and the world come to Port Douglas to undertake the challenge of fishing for one of the ocean's greatest prizes, the Marlin. The Marlin Coast hosts some of the best Marlin fishing in the world and game boats and crews arrive in Port Douglas to team up with the anglers, all with the anticipation of being the one to catch the 1,000lb competition winner.

The inaugural Port Douglas Marlin Challenge was held in November 2010 and has grown in stature and reputation at an amazing rate since. It has been pencilled in the calendar as a must do Blue Ribbon tournament by the best in the industry. The 2013 tournament is scheduled for four consecutive days of fishing from the 6th November to the 10th November 2013.
